The authorities of the Elbrus district of Kabardino-Balkaria have announced the evacuation of the population in Tyrnyauz, where a powerful mudflow descended on August 7, the press service of the local administration reported.
“The evacuation of residents of Molodezhny Lane, 1-4, and houses near the administration along Elbrussky Avenue, 36-40, is being announced. We ask you to immediately leave your homes and follow the instructions of responsible persons,” the statement said.
On July 31, the head of Kabardino-Balkaria, Kazbek Kokov, reported the descent of a new mudflow in Tyrnyauz. In connection with this, car traffic was stopped in the Gerkhozhany area. The mudflow also damaged the water supply in Tyrnyauz, leaving some of the city’s residents without water.
The previous mudflow came down after heavy rainfall along the mudflow channel of the Gerkhozhany-Suu River on July 21. The mudflow damaged the bridge on the federal highway “Prokhladny – Baksan – Elbrus” in the Elbrus district of Kabardino-Balkaria, and also left some of the residents of Tyrnyauz without water, electricity and gas. Later, communications were restored, including under a temporary scheme.
In the Elbrus district, after the mudflow, a regional emergency regime was introduced, which continues to be in effect.
