The Sagarmatha/Everest Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) does a great job of controlling the amount of trash that climbers leave on the mountain, especially at high camps. While there is still a lot of trash to clean up, Everest is cleaner. The SPCC marked the official close of the climbing season with words of appreciation for the tireless work of the Icefall Doctors.

Thus, in 2013, a large-scale operation to clean up garbage on Everest was already carried out. Then the team included 14 representatives of the Nepalese army and 20 people from the Indian army, who made a 70-day expedition called “Nepali Army-Indian Army Joint Mt Everest Diamond Jubilee Expedition 2013”. And it was one of the largest ever garbage removal operations on Everest.

On the situation on Everest in 2025

So far, no one has announced expeditions to Everest this fall. The mountain is usually more difficult to climb after the monsoons. This year, climbing permits will be significantly more expensive. Starting in the fall, the permit to climb Everest will increase from $11,000 to $15,000 per person. Given that an Everest expedition costs between approximately $30,000 and six participants, it is unclear whether this increase in cost will impact the number of climbers next year in 2026.

Summit Statistics

While the official number of climbs on the south side is yet to be released, Himal Gautam, director of Nepal’s Department of Tourism (DoT), said 694 climbers have reached the summit from the Nepalese side during the season.

“These include 257 foreign climbers, nine Nepalese nationals with climbing permits, 421 Sherpas and high-altitude guides, and seven members of the rope-fixing team,” the official said.

The count of climbs made on the north face of the mountain is expected to be close to 800.
