Taipei 101 is 1,667 feet (509.2 meters) tall and has 101 floors. Taipei 101 is located in the capital of Taiwan, Taipei and is considered the tallest in the country. The skyscraper’s lower floors house shopping centers, while the upper floors house offices for various companies.
World-renowned American rock climber and mountaineer Alex Honnold plans to conquer new heights in 2026 by free soloing Taiwan’s tallest building, the Taipei 101 skyscraper.
Honnold will attempt to become the first person to climb one of the tallest buildings on the planet, solo, without any safety equipment. Taipei 101 is the tallest building in Taiwan and the 11th tallest skyscraper in the world.

Alex Honnold’s entire climb will be broadcast live on the TV show “Skyscraper Live” in 2026.
“Watching Alex Honnold’s climb of Taipei 101 will be a thrilling, adrenaline-pumping spectacle that will leave you speechless. Everyone will be talking about it as it happens,” said Brandon Rigg, vice president of non-fiction and sports at Netflix.
Honnold was previously featured in the Oscar-winning documentary “Free Solo.” It followed his historic free solo of the 3,000-foot of the “El Capitan Freerider” route in Yosemite National Park. He climbed the route without a rope, without any safety equipment, and alone. Directed by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, the film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2019.
His other achievements include free solo ascents of Moonlight Buttress, Yosemite’s Half Dome, and Yosemite’s “Triple Crown,” which he climbed solo in less than 24 hours.

While the exact release date for the TV program “Skyscraper Live” has not yet been announced, it is expected to premiere in early 2026.
